    <title>PAN-AFRICANISM AND AFRICAN SOVEREIGNTY IN A WORLD OF CHANGE</title>

    <description>Title: PAN-AFRICANISM AND AFRICAN SOVEREIGNTY IN A WORLD OF CHANGE
Authors: Obijekwu, Matthew Ikechukwu; Muomah, Romanus Ikechukwu; Onebunne, Charles K.
Abstract: Applying an analytic approach, this paper explores the problems that led to the emergence of Pan-Africanism so as to find out if those problems have been completely eradicated in Africa. Among the problems include: colonialism, slavery and bereft African sovereignty. African sovereignty essentially comprises political, economic and socio-cultural sovereignty; even science and technology where Africa is yet to establish its footnote, is also among the problems. If till date, Africa is still being sociopolitically, economically and culturally dominated and controlled by the western world through their financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund&#xD;
(IMF) and the World Bank, it shows that Africa, as a continent, is still glorying on a bereft sovereignty. The paper argues that despite the efforts of the African nationalists to reposition African continent from the colonial domination, the contemporary Africa is more a sufferer than the old Africa that was physically violated, brutalized and dominated. The work advocates that contemporary African leaders should live by the liberation spirit of the African forefathers so as to set Africa free from the shackles of the developed nations, and at the same time, have a place in a world of change.

    <title>THE STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL OF AFRICA: CHALLENGES FACING AFRICAN INTELLECTUALS IN THE RESTORATION OF AFRICAN IDENTITY IN THE GLOBE</title>

Authors: Obijekwu, Matthew Ikechukwu; Onebunne, Charles Kosolu; Muomah, Romanus Ikechukwu
Abstract: The African continent over the years has been misconstrued by the Western world. The basis of the discourse on African philosophy has been that of rationality (reason) and irrationality (emotion). Africans have been accused of being irrational, savage, non-human or subhuman. That Africa has no history, no culture and has never contributed towards the world civilization and development. Since then, the tentacles of the debate on rationality and misinterpretation of Africa have seriously widened. The authenticity of African identity has been, as well, questioned. Globalization, which is seen as a medium of unification, has come with its implicit or explicit evidences of neocolonialism and racism. With this, human relation has existed on the platform of superiority and inferiority, civilized and uncivilized, developed and underdeveloped world. All these were predicated on the philosophical racism that was self-evident in the philosophical works of some Western philosophers. Using hermeneutical method, this work intends to investigate into the basis of the struggle for control of African identity. The work concludes that there is much to be done in Africa by African intellectuals. African philosophers or intellectuals should live beyond speculations and embark on pragmatic approach regarding culture, politics, economic and globalization so as to restore African identity in the globe.

    <title>HIGHLIGHTING THE RELEVANCE OF KARL POPPER'S FALISIFICATION THEORY IN NIGERIA'S SCIENCE ENVIRONMENT</title>

    <description>Title: HIGHLIGHTING THE RELEVANCE OF KARL POPPER'S FALISIFICATION THEORY IN NIGERIA'S SCIENCE ENVIRONMENT
Authors: Onebunne, Charles Kosolu
Abstract: Karl Popper’s falsification theory postulates that the advancement of scientific knowledge occurs through conjectures and refutations, whereby hypotheses are subjected to rigorous testing with the aim of falsification. This paper adopts the method of philosophical analysis to examine the relevance of Popper’s falsification theory within Nigeria’s scientific environment, particularly by emphasizing the need for scientific inquiry and progress. The application of Popper’s theory in Nigeria’s research culture would nurture and enhance the quality of scientific output by provoking critical thinking and promoting a culture of philosophical skepticism. This paper argues that incorporating Popper’s falsification theory can help to revolutionize the scientific landscape of Nigeria. It therefore recommends that researchers and educators in Nigeria embrace Popper’s falsification framework as a means to foster scientific progress and, by extension, national development.

    <title>UNDERSTANDING POPPER’S CONCEPTION OF SCIENCE THROUGH CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF HIS KEY CONCEPTS</title>
    <link>http://repository.unizik.edu.ng/handle/123456789/1352</link>
    <description>Title: UNDERSTANDING POPPER’S CONCEPTION OF SCIENCE THROUGH CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF HIS KEY CONCEPTS
Authors: Onebunne, Charles Kosolu; Umeogu, Bonachristus
Abstract: Popper’s conception of science has been greeted by a number of controversies ranging from his cancelling out of induction as method in science to his propagation of falsificationism as a method of demarcating science from non-science. Consequently, some scholars felt that Popper has attacked the traditional method in science so much so that Popper’s conception of science was viewed as an aberration in science. It is in the light of this that this study seeks to employ the method of analysis to bring to the fore, some key concepts in Popper’s&#xD;
conception of science as a way of showing the rationality behind the choice of falsificationism as a method in science. The study finds out that Popper chose falsification because, for him, falsification gives science a solid foundation which he believes that induction cannot guarantee. The study also reveals that Popper believes that&#xD;
falsificationism brings about qualitative progress in science as against quantitative growth that is associated with induction in terms of induction’s accumulation of evidence. This study finally recommends that Popper’s conception of science be approached phenomenologically as that would guarantee a better understanding of his conception science.
