Authors: Nwofor, Florence Amaka; Chikaodi, Hope Chinyere Ilorah; Nwaede, Vivian Uzoamaka Abstract: The study surveyed capacity building for effective service delivery of library staff in Festus Aghagbo Nwako library (FANL), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. It adopted a case study research design. Five research questions and five purposes of study, guided the research. The population of the study was made up of 107 library staff. Total enumeration technique was used so there was no sampling. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire titled “Capacity Building for Effective Service Delivery Questionnaire (CBFESDQ)”. Out of the 107 questionnaires administered 90(84.1) were returned and found useful for analysis. Data was analysed using frequencies, percentages and mean scores. The findings of the study revealed that the methods used in capacity building in FANL were job rotation (72%), coaching (77%), seminars (87%) and workshops (91%). It also found that the contents of capacity building programs that enhance library staff services delivery were training on OPAC, SDI, manual/ online cataloguing, library management, readers’ services, ICTs in libraries, digitalization of library resources, current awareness services and institutional repository management. The study revealed that that the capacity building influenced services delivery to a high extent(3.44). It also found that the problems associated with capacity building of library staff are financial problem, insufficient administrative commitment and absence of capacity building policy or framework. Finally, the study found that the strategies for improving capacity building of library staff for effective service delivery are proper funding, improved administrativeA commitment and provision and implementation of capacity building policy. Descriptive survey was adopted. The sample of the study comprised 60 respondents made up of male and female students in Federal College of Education (Technical),Umunze and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Three research questions guided the study while one hypothesis was tested. The research instrument was questionnaire which was validated by experts. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation The study revealed benefits of CAI to third year Electronic Libraries course students. Training was recommended for new intakes and lecturers to enable them acquire ICT skills for use of computer aided instruction. This area is less researched especially as it relates to teaching Internet and electronic libraries as a course in a developing country like Nigeria. Design/Methodology: Quasi-Experimental design was adopted. One institution was assigned to the experimental group while the other was assigned to the control group through a simple toss of the coin. Two groups experimental (30) and control (30) was used to investigate the interaction effect of teaching method (CAI) and gender on academic achievement and interest of students’ in electronic libraries. In order to carry out the study effectively two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The sample for the study consisted of 60 electronic libraries students’ in the tertiary institutions in Anambra State. Purposive random sampling was used to draw two institutions from the three federal institutions in Anambra State. A structured, self administered questionnaire termed “ELIS” was used for data collection. The population of the study was 100 students. A quasi experimental design was used to carry out this study. The internal consistency of the instrument was determined using Kuder-Richardson Formular 21 which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.92. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer the research question. Experimental group was taught through computer aided instruction whereas control group was taught through modified lecture method. On the completion of six weeks’ the effects of teaching method and gender were determined. The instruments were validated by experts. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation.Findings: The researchers found out that there was no significant interaction effect of teaching method and gender on the mean interest scores of students in electronic libraries. However, no significant interaction effect of teaching method and gender was found on the mean achievement scores of students’ in electronic libraries course. Practical Implications: Based on the above findings, it was notice that the teaching and learning of electronic libraries will become practical and effective when lecturers improve in their teaching methodology. Originality/Value: The value of this paper lies in finding out how teaching method and gender interaction affect academic achievement and interest of students’ in electronic libraries.
